2004-2005

 The program....

The Peru Wrestling Program has enjoyed the finest season in program history when wrestling was started in 1950.  This season the Tigers were Conference, Sectional and Regional Team Champions, but the bigger value the program offers to our community is the largest single family in Peru. The Peru Wrestling Alumni and families are tight knit and active in supporting the current teams.

2005-2006

Well over 700 student-Athletes have enjoyed the Peru Wrestling Program since Coach Andy Hobbs took over as the Head Coach in 1995 and have became lifelong family members. The Program offers very concise standards by which they operate. These standards are best described by the motto found on every T-shirt and sign produced for the program, “No Magic, Just Hard Work!”. This motto does not have the same meaning it offers. This motto actually means to avoid the complicated and just follow the plan the program has established through the standards. The Peru Wrestling Program produces college graduates and very successful military recruits that are doing very well because of these simple procedures. Our Alumni go to college and graduate because they have learned to embrace the work ethic and the toughness that our great sport of wrestling teaches. This program has prepared alumni for West Point, The United States Air Force Academy, Virginia Military Institute, United States Army and the United States Navy. The Peru Wrestling program is probably most proud of former Peru Wrestler,  the Honorable B.J. Penn for becoming the Assistant Secretary of the Navy. Results like these are possible because the culture is right in the program. It is an honor to be a Senior in this program and in turn the Senior team members mentor the Freshman and Junior High Wrestlers on the standards that should they operate on as a wrestler. Peru Wrestling finished the 2015 season with 34 High School wrestlers and 50 Junior High Wrestlers. Wrestling is a very physically and mentally demanding sport and we feel that this is a great compliment to the parents of Peru Community Schools that their sons and daughters choose the path less traveled to pursue their dreams.
